The High Court in Durban is set to deliver its decision regarding the use of the uMkhonto we Sizwe name. The case involves Jacob Zuma's new political outfit, which the ANC accuses of violating trademark laws by adopting the MK name and logo, similar to those used by the ruling party's disbanded military wing.
Legal expert Sunil Singh explains, "Historically, the name uMkhonto we Sizwe was the armed wing of the ANC. The judgment will likely consider its impact on voters. The court should ensure there is a clear distinction between the two parties and the ANC, so as not to improperly influence voters.”
The Electoral Court recently ruled in favour of former president Jacob Zuma's right to contest the elections.
