Eskom has announced that power restoration in areas of the North West province affected by recent severe weather will be completed within a day.
The communities of Moshana and Swartkop villages suffered extensive damage due to torrential rains and gales earlier in the week, impacting over 100 households. The adverse weather conditions caused destruction to homes, and fallen trees and electrical poles obstructed various streets within the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality.
Ezekiel Baruti, Eskom’s Customer Relations Manager for the region, mentioned that their specialized teams are actively working to reinstate electricity service.
Baruti detailed, “The impacted locations include Moshana and Swartkop villages, the Ramotswa border post, and the Nieverdiendt police station and school. Our teams are diligently working to reestablish power. Nevertheless, due to the extensive nature of the damage, full power restoration is expected by Thursday 11th at 10:00 pm, with around 10 poles and ten spans of wire currently down.”
Education
Following disruptions to educational activities in Moshana village near Zeerust, the North West Education Department has intervened to support the affected schools.
After storm damage to Samenyane Primary School on Monday led to learners being sent home, the department has responded by supplying additional mobile classrooms.
Mphata Molokwane, a spokesperson for the North West Education Department, confirmed, “We are providing the school with three mobile classrooms to ensure a suitable learning space for students after the storm damage. We ask for patience from parents and the community as we seek a lasting solution to this issue.”
