Discontented residents in the northern areas of eThekwini have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the municipality and COGTA to address their concerns regarding inadequate service delivery.
Demonstrations have occurred in Tongaat, Verulam, and Phoenix, emphasizing the need for consistent access to water and electricity. Residents, accompanied by representatives from the South African Human Rights Commission, marched to Durban City Hall on Thursday, presenting a list of demands. Tanya Giyapersad, vice-chairperson of the Tongaat Civic Association, highlights their extensive efforts to engage with the municipality and emphasizes their determination to maintain pressure until their grievances are addressed.
She asserts that this protest is not fleeting but rather gaining momentum as residents express their frustration and dissatisfaction.
