Fundile Gade, the MEC of the Eastern Cape Education Department, has announced significant progress in the removal of pit toilets from schools across the province. Gade has expressed confidence that by the year's end, pit toilets will be completely eradicated. He stressed the urgency of this initiative, highlighting incidents where students tragically lost their lives while using such facilities.
Additionally, Gade emphasized the positive results achieved through their efforts to expedite the eradication process. He assured that contracts between the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and service providers, facilitated by Imvula Trust, are on track for completion. Gade revealed that numerous schools, totaling more than three hundred, are scheduled for infrastructure upgrades, including the necessary toilet facilities, by August. He affirmed that this issue will become a thing of the past by the end of the year, aligning with the DBE's plans.
