LATEST NEWS: uMhlanga residents threaten legal action over ‘unreliable’ water supply

The uMhlanga Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association is considering legal action against the city due to what it perceives as an unreliable water supply.

The association's chairperson, Terri MacLarty, has expressed the desire for the eThekwini Municipality to provide evidence of the repairs and maintenance it claims to have undertaken.

Recently, parts of Durban experienced a shutdown of water supply as Umgeni-uThukela Water conducted infrastructure-related work at the Durban Heights Water Treatment Plant.

Prior to this, residents in the north of the city faced water disruptions for several days. MacLarty has stated that the association has escalated the issue beyond the city's Water Unit, as it was unable to provide satisfactory answers.

She emphasized the need to hold the municipality accountable through legal means, as withholding rates is not a lawful option.

The eThekwini Municipality has expressed unawareness of the association's potential legal action.
