Mattel has introduced a new addition to its iconic Barbie lineup—Diwali Barbie—designed to celebrate the largest Indian festival of the year. This vibrant doll marks the Hindu Festival of Lights, which will be celebrated from October 31 to November 1 this year.

Created in collaboration with renowned Indian designer Anita Dongre, Diwali Barbie features traditional Indian attire, including a choli (cropped top), a floral vest called a koti, and a beautifully patterned lehenga (ankle-length skirt).

“In celebration of Diwali, Barbie and I are both encouraging fans around the world to honor the rich heritage of Indian fashion and culture,” said Dongre. The lehenga showcases intricate floral designs, featuring dahlias, jasmine, and Indian lotus, symbolizing strength and beauty.

Additionally, Diwali Barbie is adorned with gold bangles and earrings, which Dongre notes “[reflect] the radiant lights of the festival." She expressed her goal of blending “modern aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship" in this design.

Diwali Barbie joins Mattel’s Festival of the World series, which also includes dolls celebrating Cinco de Mayo and Chinese New Year, highlighting the diversity and richness of cultural festivities around the globe.
