Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) is urging travellers and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity following a bomb threat involving a FlySafair flight at King Phalo International Airport in East London.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, prompting an emergency response involving airport security, police and bomb disposal experts.

ACSA said its Passenger Services department received a call reporting the bomb threat at 7:59am. The terminal supervisor and airport security were immediately alerted.

In a statement, the airport operator said its operational teams worked alongside the bomb squad, police and other emergency services in accordance with established safety protocols.

Following the aircraft’s landing, security checks were conducted before the pilot authorised passengers to disembark at 9:38am.

Bomb disposal experts and security personnel also carried out a detection sweep as part of the response.

The flight was carrying 184 passengers, and ACSA confirmed that all passengers and crew members were safe.

The airport operator has urged the public to report any security concerns to airport officials to help maintain safety at airports.
