Students at Buffalo City College in KuGompo City have called for urgent security improvements at Fairview Residence following the stabbing of a security guard on Sunday.

The incident has heightened safety concerns among students, who say repeated warnings about inadequate security at the residence have not been addressed.

Student leaders are calling on the Department of Higher Education to intervene, accusing college management of failing to implement meaningful measures despite being aware of the concerns.

They have also criticised the private residence owner, alleging that student safety has not been treated as a priority.

Students believe the attacker could have harmed more people had the residence manager not intervened and restrained him.

The injured security guard is recovering in hospital.

Buffalo City College management has indicated that it will only be available to respond to eNCA on Monday.

The Department of Higher Education, meanwhile, says it is working to ensure that student accommodation accredited by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) complies with safety requirements across the country.

Students say they remain fearful and are urging authorities to act before another incident occurs.
