Former deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya is back in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, where a decision on his bail application is expected.

The State is opposing his release, arguing that he could interfere with witnesses or flee the country if granted bail.

The court has also dismissed Sibiya’s claim that he had consensual sexual relations with an 18-year-old.

Sibiya faces charges of sexual grooming, human trafficking and the reckless handling of a firearm.

The magistrate postponed the bail ruling last week to allow more time to consider the evidence presented in court.

The court is expected to deliver its decision on whether Sibiya will be released on bail or remain in custody while the case proceeds.
