A 34-year-old Gauteng man is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court following the alleged murders of his two daughters, aged one and 11.
The man was arrested by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit officers on Thursday afternoon.
EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Kelebogile Thepa said the incident occurred on Tuesday after police received information that the suspect had allegedly mixed sleeping pills into his family’s food.
“Two of his daughters were declared dead at the scene, while his wife and another daughter survived the incident. The suspect fled after the incident,” Thepa said.
A manhunt was launched, with officers following up on information that led to the suspect’s arrest at the corner of Lambert and Prince streets in Germiston.
The suspect faces two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
He was detained at Germiston Police Station and is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
