President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to address the nation on Tuesday on government’s plans to tackle gender-based violence and femicide.
The address is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni announced the address during a media briefing on the outcomes of a Cabinet meeting held on 23 September.
Ramaphosa’s address comes amid growing concern over the number of women whose bodies have been discovered in Ekurhuleni in recent months.
The bodies of 11 women have been found in different parts of the municipality over the past two months, prompting calls for urgent action to address violence against women.
The President is also expected to provide an update on the investigations into the murders and outline government’s response to the broader crisis of gender-based violence.
The address comes as authorities and communities continue to call for stronger measures to protect women and bring those responsible for violent crimes to justice.
