The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) says six South Africans remain unaccounted for following devastating flash floods in Nepal.
At the request of Nepalese authorities, the South African Police Service has collected DNA samples from relatives of those reported missing.
The DNA profiles have since been sent to authorities in Nepal, as well as Interpol in Kathmandu, to assist with the identification process.
South African diplomatic missions in India and China are also assisting with efforts to coordinate the response and establish the whereabouts of the missing South Africans.
DIRCO says it remains in close contact with the relevant authorities and will continue monitoring the situation.
The department has also assured the affected families that they will be kept informed as further information becomes available.
