North West businessman Suliman Carrim is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on Friday morning after being subpoenaed to give evidence.
Carrim’s appearance has been postponed several times amid ongoing claims that he is experiencing ill health.
The commission previously indicated that Carrim could only be excused from testifying if he was examined by an independent medical specialist appointed by the inquiry.
Two other witnesses are also expected to appear before the commission, including Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy and a South African Police Service (SAPS) officer known as Witness P.
Ramsamy is expected to return to the inquiry to complete her testimony concerning the work of the IDAC unit.
Meanwhile, the commission is expected to make a ruling on an application by Witness P for his evidence to be heard in camera, meaning the public and media would be excluded from the proceedings.
Witness P is expected to provide evidence about the discovery of a covert counter-intelligence operation allegedly linked to a drug gang in Durban.
The commission is investigating allegations surrounding the criminal justice system, including claims of corruption, interference and organised crime within law enforcement structures.
