The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) has announced a major leadership reshuffle, with Duduzane Zuma appointed as the organisation’s first deputy president.
The appointment was made by party leader and former president Jacob Zuma, with details of the changes announced during a media briefing on Tuesday night.
The party said the organisational changes are aimed at strengthening its leadership and consolidating its structures.
Duduzane Zuma takes over the position from Dr John Hlophe, who will remain the MK Party’s leader in the National Assembly.
Tony Yengeni will retain his position as the party’s second deputy president.
The MK Party has also appointed Apostle Mxolisi Phakathi as national chairperson, while Lindiwe Mtshali has been named deputy secretary-general.
The party also announced the dissolution of its Strategic Presidential Team (SPT).
MK Party spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu said the party would not be responsible for any commitments, contracts or financial liabilities entered into by members of the now-dissolved team without proper authorisation.
He said the party would not assume responsibility for debts or financial obligations incurred without approval from authorised party structures.
Meanwhile, Jacob Zuma has appointed KwaZulu-Natal provincial leader Willies Mchunu to serve as part of the party’s presidential collective.
According to the MK Party, the former KwaZulu-Natal premier will provide strategic advice, organisational guidance and support on matters requiring presidential oversight and coordination.
The latest changes mark a significant restructuring of the MK Party’s leadership as it continues to consolidate its organisational structures.
