Investigations into allegations against Public Investment Corporation (PIC) CEO Patrick Dlamini will continue despite a court ruling that overturned his suspension.

The Public Servants Association (PSA) welcomed clarity on the matter after the High Court in Pretoria set aside Dlamini’s suspension, finding that it was unlawful and invalid.

The court ruled that the former PIC board had acted without obtaining the required approval from the Finance Minister and Cabinet before suspending the chief executive.

Despite Dlamini’s reinstatement, the PSA says allegations that were levelled against him before his suspension remain under investigation.

PSA Assistant General Manager Claude Naiker said the association had received assurances from Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana that the investigations would proceed.

Naiker said investigations by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) would continue and could ultimately provide Dlamini with an opportunity to respond to the allegations against him.

He said the investigations could also help establish whether there was any wrongdoing and, if the allegations are not substantiated, potentially restore confidence in Dlamini’s leadership of the PIC.

The PSA says it will continue monitoring developments as the investigations unfold.
