Residents in several areas south of Durban have been urged to prepare for water supply interruptions and a planned electricity outage this week as eThekwini Municipality carries out emergency repairs and infrastructure upgrades.

The municipality said emergency repairs are currently underway on the Wiggins High Pressure Supply Main after two sections of the pipeline burst.

The damage has affected water supply to several reservoirs, with some outlets temporarily closed to preserve available water while repair work continues.

Residents in areas including Austerville, Clairwood, Yellowwood Park, Wentworth, Mobeni and Montclair are among those affected. Water tankers will be deployed to assist communities experiencing disruptions.

Other areas affected by the water interruptions include Sea View, Woodlands, Brighton Beach, Merewent, Treasure Beach, Ocean View, Lamont and Joe Slovo.

Meanwhile, residents in several communities have also been warned of a planned electricity supply interruption on Friday.

The outage is scheduled to take place from 8:30am until 4:30pm to allow the municipality to commission protection systems as part of the ongoing Plangweni Substation upgrade.

The affected areas are:

  • Ebhodini
  • Emahlabathini
  • KwaMakhutha
  • Eplangweni
  • Ezimbokodweni
  • Iziko Road
  • Kwahlongwane
  • New City
  • Nqutshini Russia
  • Rhemia
  • Umbogintwini Industrial
  • Transnet Pipeline

The municipality has advised residents to make the necessary preparations ahead of the planned outage.

Residents have also been warned to treat all electrical installations as live throughout the interruption, as power could be restored without prior notice.

The City said residents should continue to exercise caution until electricity supply has been confirmed to be safely restored.
