Gauteng police have arrested more than 900 suspects during ongoing operations in Hillbrow and Bramley as part of Operation Shanela Two.

The crackdown, led by provincial police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni, began on Wednesday and has resulted in a total of 963 arrests linked to a range of criminal offences, including gender-based violence.

Authorities also confirmed that 100 undocumented foreign nationals were among those apprehended during the multi-day operation.

Mthombeni said the arrests formed part of intensified efforts to combat crime across the province, with significant progress recorded in prosecutions.

“In terms of operational activities, we managed to arrest 963 suspects, of which 229 are gender-based violence perpetrators. Out of that for the week under review, we managed to have 101 convictions, of which one was a life sentence,” he said.

Police say the operation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues targeted raids and high-visibility patrols in identified hotspot areas.
