Julius Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters, has come to the defence of Fadiel Adams during proceedings at the Ad Hoc Committee probing national security concerns.
Adams appeared before the committee on Tuesday evening following testimony from Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who suggested Adams may have mishandled sensitive information.
Malema told committee members that Adams acted appropriately by reporting anonymously obtained information to the police. He emphasised that anyone who encounters wrongdoing has a duty to report it, regardless of who might be implicated.
“Where you are seated, you must know there’s nothing wrong you have done, no one must ever, ever try to tell you nonsense. There’s nothing wrong you have done. You come across information, you go to the police, and what the police do with it is none of your business,” Malema said.
He added, “You have reported it to the authorities, that’s how it works. Where should you take that information to? To the same corrupt politicians who are in cahoots with thugs, whose political parties are formed with blood money and tell you, ‘No, take Parliament, take it to Parliament’, which law is that? You come across nonsense; you report it to the police, it doesn’t matter who is being implicated in the nonsense. There are no holy cows here!”
Malema’s intervention came as Adams faced intense scrutiny over the handling of allegedly classified information amid broader concerns about corruption and accountability in government.
