Msunduzi firefighters battled through the night to contain a fire that broke out at a nappy manufacturing facility in Pietermaritzburg.
The blaze erupted on Thursday evening at the factory on Royston Road, with emergency crews arriving to find the building engulfed in flames. Thick smoke billowed from the roof as intense heat hampered firefighting efforts.
Craig Botha of KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services said paramedics remained on standby throughout the operation to assist anyone who might have required medical attention.
“With the unbearable heat being emitted from the fire, private ambulance services were in standby to assist anybody should they need medical attention. Thankfully, no one was injured throughout the night,” he said.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control in the early hours of Friday morning and remain on site to fully extinguish any remaining hotspots.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
