Residents in parts of KwaZulu-Natal are being urged to brace for severe weather on Tuesday, as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 2 warning for thunderstorms across several regions of the province.
SAWS forecaster Ayanda Nsele says the storms are expected to bring heavy downpours, damaging winds, severe lightning and hail, particularly over the western parts of KZN.
“Tomorrow afternoon over the western parts, with those severe thunderstorms, we are expecting large amounts of small hail, damaging winds, as well as severe lightning,” Nsele said.
The extreme northern areas of the province are also expected to experience disruptive rainfall, with the risk of flooding on roads and low-lying bridges.
“For the extreme northern parts, where we’ve been experiencing rainfall for the past few days, we have a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain,” Nsele explained. “This includes areas such as eDumbe, eMadlangeni, Jozini and uMhlabuyalingana.”
Authorities are advising residents and motorists to remain cautious, avoid flooded areas, and monitor official weather updates as conditions develop.
