Police in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for two suspects linked to the kidnapping and torture of a 27-year-old man who was working on a streetlight repair project in Malamulele.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the victim was employed by a company contracted to fix streetlights in the area when he was abducted and taken to a house, where he was assaulted and tortured by the suspects.

“They took him to a house where he was kept, assaulted, and tortured using burning plastic while demanding ransom money for his release,” said Ledwaba.

The kidnappers contacted the company owner and demanded a ransom, which was eventually paid. The victim was also robbed of his cellphone, driver’s license, and passport during the ordeal.

Police were alerted after the incident, and following a swift investigation, one suspect was arrested shortly after the ransom exchange. He is expected to appear in court soon.

Law enforcement has since intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the remaining two suspects.

The police have urged anyone with information about the suspects’ whereabouts to come forward.
