Johannesburg residents are being advised to brace for water supply interruptions this week, as critical infrastructure maintenance gets underway.
Joburg Water has confirmed that Rand Water will be conducting planned maintenance on the Eikenhof and Zwartkopjes bulk water supply systems from Monday until Wednesday. These systems are vital to the water supply across much of the City of Johannesburg.
To mitigate the impact, water tankers will be deployed to all affected areas throughout the maintenance period.
Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala says residents in several regions should anticipate either low water pressure or complete supply cuts.
“Affected Johannesburg water systems include Soweto, Randburg, Roodepoort, Lenasia, Crown Gardens, the Commando system—comprising Brixton, Hursthill, and Crosby—as well as Aeroton and Naturena,” said Shabalala.
She warned that even after the maintenance is completed, it may take several days for water systems to fully stabilise and for normal supply to be restored.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly during this time and to make necessary preparations for the disruptions.
