A suspected hijacker was shot dead by police following a dramatic exchange of gunfire late last night at the intersection of Dumisani Makhaye Drive and Queen Nandi Drive.
Members of the Dog Unit had received a tip-off about a hijacked vehicle heading towards Quarry Heights. When they attempted to intercept the car on Queen Nandi Drive, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers.
In the ensuing shootout, one suspect was fatally shot, while two other individuals fled the scene in the direction of KwaMashu. Authorities are currently searching for the remaining suspects.
The incident has raised concerns about the increasing dangers faced by law enforcement during hijacking-related pursuits.
