As mop-up operations continue in regions affected by this week’s extreme weather, authorities are bracing for more rain heading into the weekend. The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 4 warning, signaling the potential for further damage and disruptions.

Heavy downpours have battered several provinces, including Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and the North West. The relentless rain has caused widespread destruction, damaging infrastructure and forcing school closures in some areas.

In KwaZulu-Natal, at least seven people have lost their lives due to devastating mudslides that have ravaged both formal and informal settlements. Another fatality was reported in the North West.

Meanwhile, a tornado that tore through parts of Tshwane earlier this week has left over 15 families displaced, adding to the mounting crisis.

Authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage as emergency teams work to provide relief to affected communities. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions as adverse weather conditions persist.
