The African National Congress (ANC) will be reorganizing its leadership structures in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng, following the party’s underwhelming performance in last year’s elections in both provinces.

On Monday, Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula announced that all planned rallies would be suspended until the reconfiguration process is complete. Mbalula emphasized that national officials must submit a proposal for the leadership overhaul within the next week.

While acknowledging that some have suggested a dissolution of structures, Mbalula clarified that the decision will likely involve a combination of changes. He stressed that any action taken should not disrupt the functioning of government in the affected provinces.

“We will deploy ANC members to all regions in both provinces to explain the decision and present the reconfiguration plan,” Mbalula said. “This will be followed by a presentation to the structures of the organization next week.”

The reconfiguration is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the ANC’s position in these critical provinces ahead of future elections.
