The City of Johannesburg has called an extraordinary council meeting for Friday to appoint a new city manager, a role left vacant since the departure of Floyd Brink in December.
During the meeting, the council will review a report recommending the permanent appointment of Tshepo Makola, the acting city manager.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero had proposed the appointment of Helen Botes, CEO of Joburg Property Company, for the position. However, critics have raised concerns over her long tenure, particularly pointing to a lack of improvements in the maintenance of city buildings during her time at the helm.
The council's decision is expected to have significant implications for the city's future leadership.
