The N3 Toll Concession has advised motorists to postpone their travel plans on the N3 Van Reenen Pass following a major truck accident that caused significant traffic delays on Thursday morning. The incident involved a jackknifed truck that obstructed the northbound carriageway.
Road Traffic Control (RTC) Manager Sharla Harripersadeh reported heavy traffic congestion in the area, though one lane has since been reopened. “We have a huge backlog of traffic, but one lane has been opened, and vehicles are moving. However, it will take some time for the backlog to clear,” Harripersadeh said. She added that no fatalities were reported.
No Timeline for Full Traffic Flow
Harripersadeh emphasized that there is no estimated timeframe for when traffic will be free-flowing again. “Motorists are advised to delay their trips for a while. We are currently in the process of removing the jackknifed truck, and all lanes should be opened very soon,” she said.
Earlier Disruptions
Earlier in the day, traffic near the town of Van Reenen was further affected by a multiple-vehicle pile-up, compounding delays in the region.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution, follow traffic updates, and plan their travel accordingly as authorities work to restore normal traffic conditions.
