A man who allegedly confessed to murdering his girlfriend has been found dead in what police believe to be a suicide. The tragic incident occurred on the province's south coast, where the 25-year-old woman’s body was discovered in Umzinto on Tuesday night.
According to police, the woman’s body, along with a knife, was found on a gravel road in Malangeni. It is believed that the suspect picked up his girlfriend from her home, and a domestic altercation between the two escalated to violence.
Provincial police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed that a graphic post, allegedly made by the suspect, confessing to the murder, was widely shared on social media.
“Reports suggest the suspect killed the woman inside his vehicle, as blood was found on the passenger seat of the abandoned car, which was located down the road from where the body was discovered,” Netshiunda said.
A manhunt was launched, and after an intensive search, the suspect’s body was found hanging from a tree, indicating a possible suicide.
Police are investigating the murder and have opened an inquest docket for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
