KwaZulu-Natal police are appealing for public assistance in locating an alleged hitman, Mpiyakhe Thobani Mbatha, wanted in connection with a fatal attack on twin brothers in Mpumalanga township. Mbatha, 25, is being sought for the murder of Mphilisi Ngubane, chairperson of the Fredville Taxi Association, and the attempted murder of his twin brother.
The brothers were ambushed by occupants of a brown car while traveling on the main road in Shezi September. The assailants opened fire, killing 35-year-old Mphilisi, while his twin brother managed to escape unharmed. Police have opened charges of murder and attempted murder, with the investigation transferred to the Provincial Taxi Violence unit.
Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the provincial SAPS, confirmed that an intensive investigation revealed Mbatha's involvement in the attack. Mbatha, originally from Greytown, is believed to have ties to the Inchanga area. A warrant for his arrest has been issued by the Mpumalanga Magistrate’s Court.
