The All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF-ASA) confirmed that its planned national shutdown will proceed today, despite ongoing talks with government officials aimed at preventing the strike. Truck drivers are protesting the employment of foreign nationals, unfavorable working conditions, and some employers’ non-compliance with minimum wage laws.
Deputy Secretary-General of ATDF-ASA, Sifundiso Beja, stated, “The planned shutdown is still moving forward, though negotiations are taking place in some provinces with government officials.” He added that commitments made by the previous administration remain unmet, especially with leadership changes across provinces under the current government.
In KwaZulu-Natal, the N3 corridor remains clear, according to provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Collin Govender, though trucks briefly blocked the N3 at Harrismith in the Free State before the road was cleared.
