The Limpopo Education Department has clarified that a Grade 2 student at Lefatane Primary School in Ga-Makgato was partially trapped by an Enviroloo toilet manhole cover but did not fall into the pit latrine. Provincial spokesperson Matome Taueatsoala explained that the lid cover, located behind the toilet, caused no injuries.

Taueatsoala reported that a Grade 1 learner witnessed another student climbing and jumping on the covers, resulting in the partial entrapment. The learner’s parents were notified, and the child was taken to a nearby clinic, where no injuries were found.

Taueatsoala emphasized that maintaining a safe school environment is a top priority to ensure students can learn without fear.

In a related note, a separate incident reported in April involved a Grade 2 pupil allegedly being raped by a Grade 7 student inside a school toilet in Shongoane Village, Lephalale. Limpopo police are investigating the case.
