The cross-examination of Vodacom forensic liaison supervisor Pinky Vythilingam is set to continue today in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, as part of the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

Yesterday, the defence accused the state of fraud, highlighting discrepancies in the cellphone data evidence. Defence counsel Charles Mnisi argued that the data presented by a retired cellphone analyst last year does not match the data provided by Vythilingam. The contested information involves alleged communications between singer Kelly Khumalo, who was Meyiwa’s girlfriend, and one of the accused, Fisokuhle Ntuli, prior to the Bafana Bafana captain’s murder.

Mnisi has indicated the possibility of filing a fraud case against those responsible for compiling the cellphone data evidence, stating, “On the basis of this information, we need to approach our instructing attorneys with a view to lay a formal case or formal complaint against the compilers of information on behalf of our accused.” Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng noted the severity of the allegations, prompting Mnisi to affirm that the complaint would be based on fraud and defeating the ends of justice, as the misleading information could impact the court proceedings.
