Police say the killing of the ninth woman whose body was found in Ekurhuleni appears to be linked to a love triangle.
Deputy National Police Commissioner for Policing Tebello Mosikili says Jabulile Ntimba’s body was discovered in Villa Liza, Boksburg, last Thursday.
Three suspects two women and a man are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with her death.
Mosikili says police believe they have sufficient law enforcement capacity to respond to the increase in gender-based violence cases.
She also confirmed that another woman’s body was discovered in Soweto over the weekend, bringing the number of recent cases under scrutiny to 10. Police say the unidentified body was found in a dam in Moroka, Soweto, on Sunday.
A multidisciplinary team has been assembled to investigate the deaths of women in and around Ekurhuleni.
Mosikili says forensic, data and fingerprint specialists are assisting investigators as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the killings.
The investigations have been elevated to receive priority from law enforcement agencies, with a specialised multidisciplinary team coordinating the cases.
Police have not indicated whether the Soweto death is connected to the Ekurhuleni cases.
