A 14-year-old boy is in a critical condition after falling from a bridge onto the busy N3 highway in Durban on Thursday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the Berea area, where paramedics found the teenager lying in the middle of the national route.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, with authorities yet to establish what led to the boy falling from the bridge.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the teenager had sustained critical injuries.
“Advanced Life Support paramedics worked to stabilise him on the scene before he was rushed through to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required,” Jamieson said.
Metro Police attended the scene and are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fall.
The N3 is a major route through Durban, and motorists in the area were urged to exercise caution while emergency crews attended to the incident.
