Music legend Lionel Richie has been hospitalised in St Louis, Missouri, following a concert over the weekend, with reports indicating that doctors are conducting tests for possible cardiac-related issues.
The 77-year-old singer checked himself into a local hospital after performing at The Muny in Forest Park on Saturday, 29 August. According to reports, Richie remains in intensive care while undergoing medical tests.
Concerns were raised during the concert when Richie appeared to struggle towards the end of his performance. He reportedly asked his team to bring him a chair before performing his final song, “All Night Long”, which he completed while seated.
Initial reports suggested that doctors were also investigating possible dehydration. However, newer reports say medical teams are now conducting tests relating to potential cardiac issues.
Despite the hospitalisation, a source close to Richie's tour told Rolling Stone that the singer is doing okay. No detailed public statement about his condition has been issued by his representatives.
The latest hospitalisation comes just months after Richie experienced another health scare during a concert in St Paul, Minnesota, in June.
The singer stopped his performance after reportedly feeling dizzy and needing to sit down on stage. Paramedics were called and he was taken to hospital, while subsequent tour dates were postponed.
Richie later reassured fans that he was recovering and returned to performing.
The singer's latest health concerns have raised questions about his upcoming tour schedule. He is currently expected to return to the stage on 26 September in San Francisco, where he is scheduled to perform with Earth, Wind & Fire.
Richie remains one of the most successful artists in music history, with a career spanning decades and global hits including “Hello”, “All Night Long” and “Dancing on the Ceiling”.
The four-time Grammy Award winner has also received an Academy Award and continues to perform for audiences around the world.
