More than 20,000 social grant beneficiaries in KwaZulu-Natal have yet to migrate from their old SASSA Gold Cards to Postbank’s new Black Cards.
The deadline for beneficiaries to make the switch was Monday, with eThekwini recording the highest number of outstanding migrations in the province.
Despite the deadline, Postbank card migration sites across KwaZulu-Natal remained relatively quiet on Monday.
Nationally, more than 1.8 million beneficiaries had successfully migrated to the Black Card, representing more than 80% of the targeted beneficiaries ahead of the deadline.
Those who missed the deadline have been urged to visit their nearest Postbank card replacement site as soon as possible to complete the migration process and ensure continued access to their social grant payments.
Human rights organisation Black Sash has warned that the number of beneficiaries seeking to replace their cards could increase as more people are required to migrate in order to access their grants.
Beneficiaries who have not yet completed the process are encouraged to do so as soon as possible to avoid disruptions to their grant payments.
