South African motorists could face higher fuel prices in September as rising global oil costs and ongoing geopolitical tensions continue to put pressure on prices at the pumps.
The latest data indicates that petrol prices could increase by around R1 a litre, while diesel prices are expected to rise by almost R3 a litre.
The anticipated increases follow a significant jump in international oil prices during August, which has outweighed the positive impact of a stronger rand.
Although the local currency has provided some relief, fuel price recoveries remain firmly in negative territory, pointing to further pressure on consumers.
However, the final increases could still be affected by adjustments to the slate levy, meaning the eventual price changes may differ from the current estimates.
The new fuel prices are expected to come into effect on 2 September.
