President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Minister Stella Ndabeni as Acting Minister of Health while Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi remains on sick leave.
The Presidency said Ndabeni will assume responsibility for the Health Ministry from 24 August until 30 September 2026.
The appointment was made in terms of Section 98 of the Constitution, which provides for the appointment of an Acting Minister when a Cabinet minister is unable to perform their duties.
“Ndabeni will undertake all functions of the Minister of Health for the said period while Minister Motsoaledi remains on sick leave,” the Presidency said.
Her appointment is intended to ensure continuity in the leadership and operations of the Health Ministry during Motsoaledi’s absence.
Ndabeni will oversee the Department of Health as it continues to manage the country’s public healthcare system and implement government health priorities.
The Presidency said the appointment was made in line with the constitutional provisions governing the appointment of an Acting Minister.
