A 43-year-old Kokstad man accused of killing his four-year-old stepson is expected to appear in court again on Thursday, alongside the child’s mother.

The man faces a murder charge, while the 27-year-old mother is accused of failing to report her son missing.

According to police, the child was allegedly assaulted by his stepfather in December following a dispute over a missing USB device. The boy was not seen again after the alleged incident.

The couple was arrested after members of the community raised the alarm about the child’s disappearance.

The mother has since been released on bail, while the accused stepfather remains in custody.

The case is being investigated by detectives attached to the Kokstad Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

Police have also linked the 43-year-old man to a separate murder case in Harding.

The matter is expected to continue in the Kokstad court on Thursday.
