An investigation is underway following a suspected cash-in-transit heist on the N2 near Cato Manor in Durban on Wednesday night.
Emergency services say the robbery appears to have been unsuccessful, with the cash-in-transit vehicle not being bombed during the attack.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the security guards were robbed of some of their personal belongings and firearms.
“It appears that the robbery was unsuccessful. The vehicle was not bombed; however, the guards were robbed of some of their belongings and firearms,” Jamieson said.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
South African Police Service (SAPS) and Durban Metro Police officers secured the scene while investigators examined the area.
The N2 was closed for several hours to allow police to conduct their investigation, causing disruptions to traffic in the area.
The suspects had fled the scene by the time emergency and law enforcement teams arrived.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attempted robbery and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible.
