Four men accused in connection with the 2023 murder of Democratic Alliance (DA) uMngeni councillor Nhlalayenza Ndlovu are expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday as the high-profile case progresses.
Ndlovu, who served as the DA's chief whip in the uMngeni Municipality, was shot dead at his home in eMpophomeni, Howick, in front of his wife and children.
Traditional leader Inkosi Simphiwe Eric Zuma, who is accused of ordering the killing, will make his second court appearance in as many days. He is expected to appear alongside co-accused Thobani Hlongwa, Khayelihle Shabalala and Thabo Mathonsi.
The State alleges the four men played different roles in the alleged assassination, ranging from planning the attack to carrying out the fatal shooting.
It is understood that two of the accused are expected to enter pleas during Wednesday's proceedings.
DA leader in KwaZulu-Natal and uMngeni Municipality Mayor Chris Pappas said the party remains committed to ensuring justice is served for Ndlovu and his family.
Pappas said the DA has also gathered additional evidence through private investigators, which it believes could assist the prosecution in strengthening its case.
Meanwhile, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal says it is trial-ready and confident in the strength of its case as it prepares to prosecute the accused.
