Police are investigating an incident in which a foreign national allegedly fell from a building and died in the Durban central business district on Monday night.
The incident occurred at a building on Margaret Mncadi Avenue in the Durban CBD.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said preliminary reports suggest that three foreign nationals had allegedly broken into a storage facility within the building and had been staying there for about three days.
He said the group reportedly heard noises on Monday night and believed they were being targeted.
“It is reported that they heard noises and concluded that they were being targeted. One of them then jumped from the eighth floor and sustained broken limbs. He was declared dead at the scene,” said Netshiunda.
He added that one of the individuals fled the scene, while another remained inside the building.
Authorities said the identity of the deceased and the immigration status of those involved are currently being verified as investigations continue.
