The March and March movement says it will continue staging demonstrations until the government responds to its demands regarding illegal immigration in South Africa.

The organisation, founded by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, made the announcement after concluding its protest in Durban on Tuesday.

The demonstration formed part of a series of anti-illegal immigration protests held across the country, following the movement's unofficial 30 June deadline for undocumented migrants to leave South Africa.

Addressing the media after the march, Ngobese-Zuma said the organisation would continue protesting every Thursday over the next three months, regardless of the number of people who participated.

"Even if it's 20 to 30 people, the protest shall happen. We're giving the government three months for the Thursday protests. As I said before, this thing is like being in a boxing ring. You can't give out all your energy at once. We did one burst of energy on 30 June, now we're on to round two, and then we'll move on to round three," she said.

She maintained that the movement would not abandon its campaign until the government engaged with its concerns over illegal immigration.

Anti-illegal immigration demonstrations were held in several parts of the country on Tuesday, including Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban. A protest also took place in KuGompo in the Eastern Cape.

Ngobese-Zuma described the nationwide demonstrations as a success, despite varying levels of participation across the different locations.

The movement has indicated that further protests will be held in the coming weeks as it continues to press for government action on immigration enforcement.
