Two additional senior South African Police Service (SAPS) officers have been served with notices of intention to suspend them as investigations into their alleged links to suspected underworld figure Vusumuzi Matlala continue to widen.

The officers have been given an opportunity to provide reasons why they should not be suspended before a final decision is made.

The latest developments follow testimony presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where the two officers were allegedly implicated.

The notices form part of an expanding investigation into the awarding of a multi-million-rand police health management contract that has come under scrutiny.

Earlier this week, four other senior SAPS officials were also issued with notices of suspension as authorities intensified their probe into alleged irregularities surrounding the contract.

Those officers have already been charged internally for allegedly breaching bid adjudication committee procedures during the procurement process.

The investigation is expected to examine both the contract award process and any alleged relationships between police officials and individuals connected to the matter.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the officers involved or provided further details regarding the allegations.

The case remains under investigation and further developments are expected as the inquiry continues.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
