Suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday alongside controversial businessman Vusimuzi Matlala and 15 co-accused.

The group faces charges relating to alleged contraventions of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

The case forms part of a broader investigation into alleged irregularities involving procurement processes within the South African Police Service.

At the centre of the matter is the alleged irregular awarding of a contract valued at approximately R228 million to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company linked to Matlala.

The State alleges that the procurement process failed to comply with prescribed financial management and supply chain regulations.

The matter was previously postponed to 13 May 2026 to allow for further investigations and for all accused to be formally joined on the same charge sheet.
