United States President Donald Trump says Washington is nearing the achievement of its core strategic objectives regarding Iran, as tensions in the Middle East continue.

In a national address, Trump stated that efforts to weaken Iran’s military capabilities were close to completion, although he offered limited detail on the next steps in the unfolding crisis.

He warned that further action could be taken if no agreement is reached with Tehran, indicating that Iran could face significant consequences within the next two to three weeks, including possible strikes on key infrastructure.

Trump also suggested that the United States may target Iran’s electricity generation capacity should negotiations fail.

Despite the strong rhetoric, the US president said talks with Iran are ongoing, even as public positions from Iranian leadership appear to differ.

The address comes amid growing concern within the United States about the economic impact of the crisis, as well as continued instability across the Middle East.

Trump further cautioned that countries reliant on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz should take steps to safeguard their interests.
