A planned coastal getaway ended in tragedy after a woman believed to be in her mid-40s was found unresponsive in a parked vehicle at a service station in Cato Ridge.
According to KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service, paramedics were flagged down on Wednesday morning and discovered the woman unresponsive inside the vehicle.
Spokesperson Craig Botha said emergency teams immediately initiated CPR, with advanced life support units joining in an extensive effort to revive her.
“A couple who had been engaged for only two weeks were travelling from Johannesburg to Umhlanga to celebrate their recent engagement,” Botha said.
He added that the woman, a mother of two, had reportedly been experiencing persistent chest pains for the past two weeks.
Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts lasting more than an hour, medics were unable to restore her heartbeat, and she was declared dead at the scene.
Botha urged the public to seek medical attention for ongoing chest pain, warning that it can be life-threatening.
