Newly appointed National Prosecuting Authority head Advocate Andy Mothibi says his priority is to restore the credibility and integrity of the institution.
Speaking to SABC News on Wednesday, Mothibi said rebuilding public confidence in the NPA would depend on strengthening prosecutions that have the greatest impact, particularly in light of recent revelations of corruption and criminal activity highlighted at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
He emphasised that the organisation must ensure its work is guided by strong ethical standards and accountability.
Mothibi also confirmed that he had engaged with officials from the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, saying he had been briefed on ongoing investigations and recent operational developments.
“The team really assured me that they’re hard at work. Some of the results you may have picked up late yesterday evening, that there are some arrests that IDAC has effected, and the appearance will be this morning,” he said.
He added that a key focus for both the NPA and IDAC is ensuring that all operations are conducted ethically and with strong institutional integrity.
“So, part of the focus of the overall NPA, but now in particular IDAC, is really to ensure that we run our business on an ethical basis, to ensure that the ethics and integrity that we do our work with is above board,” Mothibi said.
The new NPA leadership says strengthening ethical governance and improving prosecution outcomes will be central to restoring public trust in the justice system.
