Security has been heightened at the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court ahead of the first court appearance of a suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Marius van der Merwe.
Van der Merwe, who was identified as Witness D during proceedings of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, was shot and killed outside his home in Brakpan last year.
Police arrested a suspect over the weekend in relation to the case.
A family friend attending the court proceedings says relatives of the deceased are hoping the legal process will bring justice for Van der Merwe’s killing.
