The South African Police Service has strengthened its crime-fighting capacity in KwaZulu-Natal with the return of dozens of seasoned detectives.
Fifty-nine former officers were officially welcomed back into the service on Friday morning during a formal reintegration ceremony led by KZN Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Anthony Gopaul.
Police say the detectives had previously left the service in good standing, either through voluntary resignations, early retirement or other personal reasons. While some resumed active duty as early as November last year, Friday’s event marked their official return to the fold.
Gopaul said the reintegration of these experienced investigators comes at a critical time and is expected to significantly enhance the province’s ability to tackle serious crime.
“Their return will help ensure justice for victims through thorough and professional investigations,” he said.
He reminded the returning officers that they are well aware of what the job demands, stressing that accountability is non-negotiable, professionalism is mandatory, and no case should go cold under their watch.
The move is part of broader efforts by SAPS to bolster investigative capacity and improve case resolution rates across KwaZulu-Natal.
